The modern approach to a budget hotel

As Creneau International was working on the designs of a new budget hotel in Hasselt, they were thinking of another way to approach the project. Most budget hotels had the same room size as normal hotels, but less panache and style. By turning this traditional concept around and creating smaller, but more sophisticated rooms, Creneau invented a new way of approaching the design of a budget hotel.

Although the hotel focusses on young urban professionals, of which the Y.U.P acronym is derived, the quality of architecture and design is high. From the moment visitors enter the lobby, people are transported from the trendy city of Hasselt to what could have been the set of Mad Men, albeit a darker and gloomier version. Moody, intimate spaces set in a minimal palette of dusky greys and inky blues are all assisted by a perfectly thought-through lighting plan, one that ORBIT is proud to be part of.

The pendant lighting of our Steamer Adapter and Borderline luminaires both tastefully illuminate the marble surfaces and reflect on the subtle gold details that reimagine a more modern version of the sixties. ‘We created this hotel especially for the “work hard, play hard” generation, keeping modern technology and comfort in mind,’ explains Peter Geurden, CEO of Different Hotels Group, after which the architects at Creneau International added: “from every optional lighting manufacturer, ORBIT just suited this concept best and had the most attractive solution.”
