#RESIDENTIAL ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS

KEW HOUSE 3 BY VIBE DESIGN GROUP

Some pure architectural indulgence to get us through the end of the week!

Today, we’re craving architectural eye candy, and the Kew House 3 in Melbourne, Australia, is the perfect remedy. Inspired by stereo cabinets from the 1960s, Vibe Design Group designed a solid center façade flanked by timber battens of slotted Silvertop Ash to replicate the speakers. The house is delicately posed on steel posts that once again evoke the vintage musical design influence and add a certain lightness to the structure.

Silvertop Ash was chosen specifically for its silvery aspect that fades into the surrounding trees, providing a sense of affinity between the house and its location.

The rear of the residence provides a stark contrast to the façade. Light walls and the extensive use of glass creates an open connection between the interior and exterior that balances the closed street facing façade. An angular cut out in the rear façade offers uninterrupted views of the pool and backyard. Other elements include wall-integrated doors that celeverly hide the scullery and bathroom as well as a dumbwaiter (!!!) that extends from the garage to the scullery.
