JERRY HOUSE BY ONION

A holiday home in Thailand built around an indoor playground

If you have ever dreamed of your house being a giant playland, be jealous. For a family in Thailand, this dream has become a reality.

Behold, Jerry House! A bright vacation home in the seaside town of Cha-Am Beach. Designed by Bangkok architecture firm Onion, the house is modeled after the Tom and Jerry cartoons, as a chunk of Swiss cheese that is filled with holes and continuous, maze-like passageways.

Five layers of netting were worked into a three-story void in the house. The netting is strung at different angles and can be accessed via ladders, randomly placed holes or the more traditional staircase. The family can also slide down sloping floors or crawl through secret tunnels. A mirrored film placed at the very top gives the impression of the space being infinite.

Every detail of the house gives a little wink of fun. The rounded doors are something out of a fairy tale cottage and geometrically shaped windows add a playful element to the bedrooms, each of which is painted in a solid, bright color.

As if all of the above weren’t enough, the house also contains a secret sliding door that leads from the top most layer of the netting to the son’s bed. The son’s bed is contained in a wooden structure that houses another bed and has a tunnel connecting the two. The Jerry House is definitely going to be in high demand for sleepovers.
