HOUSE F BY FINCKH ARCHITECKTEN

A futuristic house that puts the present to shame

Mankind has always been obsessed with its future, trying to figure out what the coming days will bring. Hence all the sci-fi movies and books, but not only: art, design and of course architecture have always tried to look further and be one step ahead of everyone else. And they sometimes succeed! German architects Kinckh Architekten did so with House F.

Indeed, House F is one of these projects that look like they’ve got a head start on everything else. A glimpse at a near future, whether you like it or not. It combines all the elements of what we imagine the future to be like: sobriety, efficiency and geometric balance. The building’s shape has been reduced to only the essentials, and yet it looks complex and mysterious. A semi-transparent cladding on the sides and large windows allow light to come in and yet, from the outside, the house looks opaque.

Inside, a light concrete attenuates the light coming from almost everywhere. Discreet stairs cut the straight spaces nicely and create an interesting dynamic in the modern interior. In the end, what’s so strange is that House F is in harmony with its surroundings, making it look like the surrounding houses aren’t in the right place.
