GAMSEI COCKTAIL BAR BY BUERO WAGNER

Local cocktails and local craftsmanship combined in one original locale

In a world of classic, industrial cocktails, Munich’s Gamsei Cocktail Bar is a specimen apart. With his newest bar, owner Matthew Bax wanted to bring local traditions into the world of bartending. Thus the ingredients of Gamsei’s cocktails are either foraged or grown by small local farmers. Homemade liqueurs and syrups populate the thoughtfully seasonal menu.

To create an interior design that matched the bar’s philosophy, Munich-based Buero Wagner was brought on board. The small space of 40 m² was modeled after mammoth Bavarian beer halls, incorporating risers instead of traditional seating and eliminating the distance between bartender and client.

Solid oak cupboards display dried flowers and herbs, while white ceramic bottles hang from steel mesh on the ceiling. All of the materials were locally sourced and the architects worked in close contact with local carpenters and manufacturers to create the bespoke elements.
