A one-of-a-kind hotel room in Amsterdam

You might think of a hotel as a place to rest or a home-away-from-home. However, fans of the traditional hotel might be baffled by Edmund, this unique room conceived by Dutch designers Jos Blom and Jasper Eustace at the Volkshotel in Amsterdam. In fact, the hotel is far from conventional – no cookie-cutter rooms here! In fact, Edmund is part of a series of rooms, each of which was completed by a different designer.

If at first the room looks fuzzy and confusing, with a second look you might find that this rather unconventional room design hides a few cozy secrets. Of course, it’s hard not to focus on the irregular and sharp geometrical shape of the central block and the murals. But when you look at it from the right angle, this room can actually turn into a warm and comfy haven. The bed is nicely nested under the central wooden volume, and behind the light wood and some plants, you’ll find a wide and beautiful shower. Icing on the cake: the wooden block has stairs that lead to a lofted bathtub! Needless to say this room won’t fit everybody’s needs, but it will most certainly make others very happy!
