House in El Calvario

Refurbishment project of a row house in the historical city centre of Bétera.

This project involves the refurbishing of a row house in the protected heritage area of El Calvario, in the historical city centre of Bétera. This protected status required the conservation of the existing volumes of the façade’s overall composition, and of the roof.

The project consisted mainly of the interior renovation, and the restoration of the patio and the workshop/storage structure located in the back. The patio thus regained its ability to comfortably accommodate outdoor activities. The patio also recovered its original dimensions thanks to the removal of inappropriate elements which had been added over time.

The interior renovation consisted of a functional updating of the house, after carrying out its structural consolidation, repairing the roof, and improving the insulation and energy efficiency. The result meets the needs of the client within a container with high restrictions and a limited surface, while maintaining the essence of the original organization, which has a great sentimental value due to its connection to the previous family life.

We used a palette of traditional materials, combining wood, white plaster and decorative ceramics. Ceramic is used in the pavement of some relevant areas, such as the lobby and kitchen, for functional and aesthetic reasons, providing continuity and fluidity to the interior space.
