An Amazingly Sculptural Spiral Staircase Has Been Installed In The Lobby Of This Office Building

Located within the Atrium office tower in Tel Aviv, Israel, is this amazing sculptural staircase made from Poplar wood.

Designed by architect Oded Halaf and crafted by Tomer Gelfand, the staircase is composed of two sculptural elements, the spiraling stairs and the tornado, which acts as a viewing balcony to the hall below.

At the bottom of the stairs, the reception desk was conceived as the starting point for the spiraling wooden sculpture, and is made from the same Poplar wood as the stair railings.

The railings are constructed of 9,000 meters (29,527 feet) of raw Poplar wood, that was cut using a CNC machine to form a series of arches that were then assembled on site.

Although the structure may seem flexible and bendable, it is in fact extremely stiff and stable, with the stairs and the tornado elements merging at the top of first floor.
