pedevilla sets pink homogenous apartment building against mountainous backdrop

The ‘pfarrmesnerhaus’, located in sterzing, the highest city in the alps region is 948 meter above sea level and designed by bolzana-based firm pedevilla architects

the apartment block is built upon a site of a parish church where due to the poor preservation, the client decided to demolish it and utilize the large piece of land. coated in a dusty pink shade called ‘porphyry red’, the hue derives from the local stone that is found in the area where the designers had decided to continue the same color onto the venetian blinds and bannister- emphasizing the homogeneous nature. spreading across four-storeys, private balconies are set within the form and the apartments all align facing east and west. constructed using a load-bearing structure of reinforced concrete, the walls are thermally insulated adapted for the cold winters and depending on the time of day, the sun highlights the subtly textured surface of the façade, completing a refined look with the dramatic topography.
