With regards to aluminium, sustainability can be achieved and negative impact on environment reduced by using and combining together a series of different factors linked both to the support and the specified paint finish.

Powder coating protects the aluminium substrate both from weathering and corrosion as well as oxidisation. Application is an efficient process: the overspray that remains inside the cabin can in fact be collected and reapplied. When the colour needs to be changed, the cabin is sealed and pressurised air is used to remove the residual powder that is then transported into the system of recirculation to be used later. This method ensures that 99% of the powder gets used. What is more, the durability of modern powder paints make the product itself an ecological choice. Ultra-durable polyesters and powders based on fluoro-carbonate are available for architectural projects that are guaranteed for up to 30 years. One of the first projects to use AkzoNobel’s Interpon D2000 range was a hospital in California (Mission Hospital, Vieyo), who celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary in 2016.
