#PUBLIC ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS

Hongkun Art Gallery

The architects consider the preservation and exhibition of art central to an art museum.

While primitive art happened in caves like Lascaux, the cave is also one of the original architecture types that has been widely used and experimented through arches in architectural history. Therefore the museum revolves around the idea of cave and arch to create a dialogue between the classics and the modern. The classical archway becomes the door between life and art, through which a person enters another world. With the arches shaping the space, they allow one's eye to flow along the curves as if when one looking at classical Chinese landscape paintings. One enjoys more joy from the rhythmic flow of his eyes. This continuity of the space, is an reflection of architects? intention to understand life and time through movement, attracts attention while also triggers thinking.

The fundamental of an art space is to create an environment for art exhibition. Therefore the design both strive to explain the artistic element of architecture and space as well as to remain pure and simple. The museum is not only an exploration and investigation for an art space, but also a door to the idea that art exhibition should not be limited to a building's original structure. By restructuring the space and and allowing the space to self express, let art and space together touch the soul.
