National Library of Sejong City

Library

The design of the new National Library building is modelled on a book page that is in the process of being turned over. The simple, geometric shape of a gentle curve forms the basis for the design and ensures the building has a unique profile, which acts as a distinctive landmark. Contrary to conventional libraries that are often characterised by their rigid shape, the National Library is intended to appeal to people’s emotions in order to be user-friendly. Inside the building is a large, open lobby with a very beautiful view of a lake, while the open space is both inviting and welcoming for visitors.

Statement by the jury

»An alluring, dynamic use of form makes the National Library of Sejong City appear to float and gives it an inviting openness.«
