Sky garden-lined hotel in PyeongChang is a sustainable retreat for the 2018 Winter Olympics

In anticipation of the influx of tourists that will flock to PyeongChang for the 2018 Winter Olympics, Planning Korea Designs designed a stunning sprawling hotel.

The green terrace-lined design will snake in cascading curves that form an infinity shape. Designed for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the tourist-friendly hotel is poised on the beach front, giving guests a view of both the water and the mountains. The modern façade will be lined with lush sky gardens, which create a sloping line of greenery from ground to roof to bring guests harmony with nature and architecture.

In anticipation of the influx of tourists that will flock to PyeongChang for the 2018 Winter Olympics, Planning Korea Designs designed a sprawling hotel that covers 29,493 square meters, offering 946 rooms to incoming guests. The hotel’s loop shape was inspired by the ecological structure of plankton, but from above looks remarkably like a roller coaster.

The curving hotel is situated around a large pool, which stretches out under the loops and toward the beach. The glassy façade creates a naturally brightly lit interior throughout the mix of hotel rooms, condos and amenity areas. At night, the glass is transformed into a screen on the lower levels, with an LED system creating a media screen. Along each slope of the resort, Planning Korea created a terrace garden, which includes a grassy floor and trees. These gardens create a green visual outline seen from afar. Onsite, the sky gardens bring the calm of nature and green space to guests, who can find solitude and peace on one of the many grassy gardens. Guests can also enjoy views and fresh air on the hotel’s rooftop sky deck.
