Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba Hotel opens in Peru's Sacred Valley of the Incas

World-recognized sustainable tourism leader Inkaterra has announced the opening of its latest resort hotel in Peru: the Inkaterra Hacienda Urubamba.

The modern, luxury hotel sits on approximately 100 acres of land, and is surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, as well as indigenous pepper trees, cacti, and countless flower species. It's opening with 12 rooms in the main Casa Hacienda building, and another 24 stand-alone luxury casitas will be completed this summer.

Tucked into the Andes mountains, close to both Macchu Picchu and Cusco, this magnificent Colonial-inspired hotel sits in the very heart of the Inca empire. The hotel and grounds were designed by Denise Guislain-Koechlin alongside her husband Jose Koechlin—Inkaterra’s founder and CEO—and as with all other Inkaterra endeavors, this project has a major focus in sustainability, environmental stewardship, and conservation.

This is an ideal place to retreat for spiritual and physical respite, and visitors can spend their time horseback riding, stargazing, birdwatching, or just gazing up at the stars. At 9,515 feet in altitude, the views in every direction are absolutely gorgeous. All bedrooms feature views of the nearby valley and mountains, and both the climate and the calming vista surroundings offer guests a perfect opportunity to bask in nature, in one of the oldest and most ancient sites on Earth.

Inside the hotel, the decor has been inspired by Inca art and design, right down to the colorful throw blankets that adorn the beds. Custom-made furniture draws upon local influences as well, and ancient motifs are also evident in the artwork around the building: rare pre-Columbian textiles are displayed on the walls, paying homage to the location’s rich history.

In addition to the main hotel structure itself, the property boasts a 10-acre organic plantation that’s farmed with traditional Andean hand tools and ox-pulled ploughs. Guests are encouraged to gather their own produce, and can pick from crops such as artichokes, purple corn, various types of beans, and quinoa (either red, black, or brown). Medicinal herbs are also grown on the property, from mint and chamomile to lemon balm and sage.
