renowned canadian development firm and culture company, westbank has reassembled bjarke ingels group’s 2016 serpentine pavilion in downtown toronto. the temporary pavilion has been brought back to life since its original introduction in london, beginning its multi-city tour. located at king and brant streets, the pixelated space provides visitors and locals of toronto with an exceptional, curated experience. designboom is in the canadian city for the BIG reveal.

the pavilion, made of 1802 stacked fiberglass units, stands over 88 feet tall at its highest point and 39 feet long. the BIG-designed structure had been disassembled in london following its 2016 presentation in london by serpentine gallery and transported to north america to be re-assembled in toronto. this marks the first serpentine pavilion to make its way to north america. in its latest site, it will host ‘unzipped,’ westbank’s newest exhibition — showcasing an intimate collaboration between developer and architect where every element of the design is considered in relation to its context.
