the sky clubhouse features a white gradient façade to filter the sunlight, by design in motion

‘the sky clubhouse’ is a small building facility for a residential project built by a local studio design in motion in the suburbs of bangkok, thailand. the new venue serves for private housing, which consists of a small gym on the upper floor, interior and exterior areas for multi-purpose activities. with the limited space, the main idea of the project is to create the open and continuous space that can connect inside and outside, lower and upper levels.

the design of the staircase serves as a way to combine circulation, floorplan, activities, and landscape that can lead visitors from ground level along the way to the gym on the upper floor. meanwhile, the space under the steps is used to hide all the service area of the building. the steps also divide the floor into small platforms that can serve various activities and functions. each of these platforms provides the space with an area that can change to fit the need for several functions such as relaxing zone, working table, or amphitheater for a small group of people. furthermore, these platforms are integrated with a small garden that is carefully placed to warmth in the atmosphere and create privacy on each platform at the same time.

the materials used by the architects are the standard ones for thailand — concrete, terrazzo floor, and aluminum window frames. meanwhile, the main character of the building is the white aluminum stripes façade that covers the whole ground floor interior space, gradually twists from vertical to horizontal, helps filter the natural light, and connects the view below to the outdoor area and landscape garden around the site.
