matteo thun envelopes waldhotel healthy living with wooden lattice screen

combining sustainability, the natural setting, innovative techniques with hospitality, milan-based practice matteo thun and partners has designed the ‘waldhotel healthy living’ located in bürgenstock, switzerland.

the complex will offer wellness facilities along with services for different kinds of medical treatment. embedded into the mountain, the scheme’s façade is characterized by a continuous wooden lattice structure which wraps around the volumes made with local stone- referencing local walser architecture.

the building is arranged to gently slope with the gradient of the mountain and complemented by garden covered terraces and green roofs. overlooking lake lucerne, water from the lake itself will be used to cool the building’s internal technologies. instilling a restful and comfortable ambiance, the complex will offer 161 suites along with generous space dedicated to wellness, medical services and spa facilities, all of which immersed in a backdrop of lush forestry, fresh air and breathtaking views.
