'quasimodo’s penthouse' by who cares?! proposes a luxury apartment on notre dame's roof

as the whole world has been consumed by recent events which ravaged the notre dame in paris, the viennese architectural firm, who cares?!, present an alternative proposal for the restoration of the medieval cathedral.

entitled, ‘quasimodo’s penthouse‘, the new concept is based on the eponymous hero of victor hugo’s 1831 novel – the hunchback of notre-dame. after the fire of april 15th 2019 engulfed the roof and spire of one of france‘s most iconic landmarks, the project addresses a question that has not yet been asked – where will the world’s most famous bell ringer live now?the project adopts a non-conformist approach and takes leave from the gothic architecture which the cathedral is known for. instead, who cares?! proposes a light and green-filled penthouse apartment to be constructed on the roof, allowing quasimodo to enjoy more comfortable accommodation than the dark attic he had become accustomed to. with an area of 8,000 sqft, the famous hunchback will benefit from a new lavish style of living, flooded with beautiful daylight.

the penthouse is flanked on either side by large rooftop gardens on the east and west, offering unforgettable views over the city of paris. and how will quasimodo access his new home? by the helipad on the roof of course. for relaxation, the design also includes a spa with a generous indoor/outdoor pool. after the tragic destruction of such an important building, who cares?! proposes a fantastical dream house for the famous character who helped make the notre dame so well-loved.
