RIBA OFFICE

Maintenance-free design, modern technology and a highly qualified team of architects come together in the new office building for RIBA in London.

The office building offers a contemporary, open and pleasant atmosphere; exactly what the award-winning architects had in mind when they laid down the designs. Once again Theis and Khan Architects achieved this by choosing the partnership of Stratum Resin Flooring with Bolidt. The freedom of design played a hugely important role. The Bolidtop® 525 resin floor, applied by Stratum Resin Flooring, gives the office space a luxurious look which fits seamlessly with the unique design of the building.

Royal Institute of British Architects

RIBA, the Royal Institute of British Architects, is a leader when it comes to architecture and the services it provides. The organisation ensures that better buildings contribute to a better environment and community through architecture of the highest order. In co-operation with the Government, many public buildings, new homes and new communities have been designed to offer optimal quality. The new offices for RIBA itself – a converted building that dates back to the 1950’s – consists of three interconnected buildings, which combine to offer more than 3,150m2 of floor space. In short, the perfect location for an outstanding achievement in the field of design.

The Design

Floors determine the atmosphere of a room and are often the first indication of the use of space. Flooring should also appeal to the senses. Comfort and flexibility are central to RIBA’s new offices. A modern identity through sustainable design, where spacious vistas are created was the incredible result. Theis and Khan Architects opted for an open and flowing interior design, creating seamless continuity from the fully glazed entrance, all the way through and beyond the open building. Bolidt’s flawless flooring rests here. The Bolidt flooring that was promoted and applied by Stratum Resin Flooring, completes RIBA’s new offices.

Design freedom

Bolidt applies the latest technologies worldwide when it comes to synthetic flooring. Therefore, it has not been the first time that Theis and Khan opted for the performance of a Bolidt floor. The architectural firm have a long history and understanding of the properties of the Bolidtop® 525 system, especially when it came to designing a Youth Resource Centre at Coram Fields in London. The formal, yet contemporary character of Bolidt floors combined with the seamless finish and the matt/gloss silkiness provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to the working environment. Aesthetically, Bolidt was a great choice for these two projects. But due to its acoustic absorption, ability to stay cool and the ease of maintenance Bolidt also turned out to have the perfect, practical solution for the new RIBA office. Because of the product characteristics and the ultimate design freedom, Bolidt proved to be Theis and Khan’s number one choice once again.
