alberto tonconogy completes hotel casa de uco in argentina

‘hotel casa de uco’ is the first construction of a multi-stage development in the valle de uco, located a short way from the city of mendoza, argentina.

the project was completed by argentinian architect alberto tonconogy, with a larger group of contributing professionals. the various phases, beyond the lodge, will include: bungalows, villas, vineyard, and winery.

tonconogy began the complex project attempting to find ways to leave the environment as unchanged as possible. in order to do so, topography of the location was intensely studied and taken note of — including the seasonal streams that flow from the foothills of the andes mountains. the most notable waterways were chosen as anchor points for development, and a series of lagoons were created to store water for aesthetic — and most likely wine making — purposes.

the ‘hotel casa de uco’ itself is constructed of many materials, each helping to establish the structure within the landscape. each façade looks directly towards a specific feature, but emphasis is placed on the southern face, which features glazed windows that overlook the valle de uco, and the west, which overlooks the andes.
