A Mojave desert home draws on local geography

Las Vegas-based design firm assemblageSTUDIO looked to the surrounding environment when designing the Trescara residence; right in the thick of the Mojave desert, the project incorporates aspects of the rugged yet vibrant terrain as well as functional, sustainable solutions to combat extreme desert temperatures.

The residence is comprised of several different structural layers, all in different materials and textures. The stratification and diversity reflect the neighboring Red Rock mountains visually, but also serve to create crevices that circulate cool air, protection from the sun as well as playful shadow.

Much in the same way that mountainous outcroppings house and protect small oases tucked stealthily between rocks, the layers of Trescara create refuge from the harsh heat of the desert.
