THE SILVER HOUSE BY OLIVIER DWEK IS THE STUFF OF VACATION DREAMS

A paradisal villa overlooking the Ionian Sea on the Greek island of Zante

If you’re not currently on holiday, you’re probably wishing that you were on holiday, particularly when confronted with the stunning view from The Silver House. Belgian architect Olivier Dwek designed this divine home on the Greek island of Zante. Perched above the endless blue of the Ionian Sea, the starkly white home carefully frames the neighboring island of Cephalonia, turning the exceptional scenery into a living tableau. In fact, the entire home was developed around the view. Every room in the house, inside and out, is turned towards the seascape.

To further take advantage of the remarkable setting, the home eliminates the boundaries between interior and exterior. Immense doors slide away to expose the living and dining areas to the exterior. The spaces form two covered terraces where residents can live in the sunshine while remaining protected from the strong winds blowing up from the sea. Overall, the contemporary structure becomes a study of opposites: its angular forms emerging from organic surroundings, its pristine white surfaces complementing the deep sea blue and a delicate equilibrium of interior comfort and exterior living.
