TETRIS HOUSE BY RZLBD
A video-game-inspired home in Canada
Appropriately named, the Tetris House uses absolutely every inch of a tightly zoned 40’ by 110’ lot in Toronto. Confronted with a puzzle worthy of the iconic video game, Reza Aliabadi of rzlbd had to decipher the most efficient way to incorporate the client’s requests into a limited space. The result is three stories and 3000 square feet that encompass 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a home office, an ample living area and kitchen, a bar complete with wine cellar and entertainment area, a covered garage and the holy grail of space optimization: storage. Phew. Talk about geometric configurations! A Tetris-like insertion of lightwells ensures that the house remains bright and open, and the exterior’s eclectic yet harmonious mix of materials creates the impression of a game that has fallen perfectly into place. High score, indeed.
