UMANESIMO LATINO SQUARE UNDERGROUND CAR PARK, TREVISO

TECNOSTRUTTURE

Treviso's Latin quarter, inaugurated 30th September 2006, was realised by architect Paolo Portoghesi by restoring the former hospital Santa Maria dei Battuti (also called San Leonardo). The fundamental idea behind the restoration was to recuperate the original style by putting it in harmony it with modern design elements. The elegant complex encompasses the new Umanesimo Latino square and promenade created from the hospital courtyard, bordering commercial and residential spaces.

PLANNING DETAILS

The particular architecture complex of a building inserted in the historic centre of the city of Treviso, contributed to jumps in height corresponding to diverse destinations of use for the first ceiling. The closeness of adjacent buildings and the presence of soil with little carrying capacity made the use of temporary diaphragms and tie-rods impossible because they were risky during the dig phase.

STRUCTURAL SOLUTIONS

The use of composite steel-concrete self-bearing system slabs coupled with composite steel-concrete beams with concrete footing with a construction process from the ground level descending towards the foundation. Top Down allowed for the use of definitive bearing composite steel-concrete self-bearing system members, without occupying site space near the dig.
