Alnatura Campus

A green symbol for Darmstadt

The old barracks in the south-west of Darmstadt is now the new home of the Alnatura brand. The new, modern campus stretches over a total of 55,000 square metres and consists of world of work, Waldorf kindergarten, a vegetarian organic restaurant and numerous school and adventure gardens.

The office building with a gross area of 13,500 square metres is the largest office building in Europe with an external façade in stamped clay walls. The ecological mixture consists of broken rock, foamed glass, gravel, clay and crushed demolition waste from the old military barracks and was provided with heating coils so that the walls also act as heating. A large photo-voltaic system produces the electrical power and an earth tube brings fresh air from the adjoining woods. A geothermal plant and a heat pump provide a comfortable temperature. The asymmetric roof provides daylight in all areas. The environmental statement of the campus fits the whole market alignment of Alnatura concerning biological products, ranging from food to textiles and cleaning products.

The sustainable campus was equipped with the electrical installation from JUNG in the LS 990 switch design in white and dark as well as the intelligent KNX system. Push-button sensors in the F50 design allow lights, blinds and temperature to be intuitively controlled.
