LEVER HOMES BY FIRST LAMP

A sustainable residence on the west coast of the United States

Designed and constructed by First Lamp Architecture & Construction, Lever Homes is a 5-Star Built-Green project located in Seattle, Washington, USA. The principle challenge of building the two-unit townhome was keeping the units affordable, while simultaneously respecting very high standards of sustainability.

A narrow lot with a width of only 7.6 meters prompted the architects to elevate the structure. They also chose a front-to-back configuration because of the lot’s proximity to another building on the south side. The one-bedroom unit faces the street, while the three-bedroom unit faces the back.

In order to minimize energy consumption, LED lighting and ductless Mini-Split heat pumps were integrated throughout the structure in addition to the usage of BIBS insulation and a tankless water heater. They also privileged non-VOC paints and finishes, used energy-efficiency windows and woven bamboo flooring as well as pre-wiring both units for the use of photovoltaic panels.
