HELLO HOUSE BY OOF! ARCHITECTURE
A gregarious little home that strikes up a conversation with the neighborhood
Often, architects create subtle dialogue through transparency, materials and nature. Throwing subtlety to the wind, the Australian firm OOF! has chosen to be a bit more literal. The Hello House, with its friendly and humoristic facade, offers the neighborhood a bright and cheery greeting in its white brickwork.
Located in a heritage neighborhood of Melbourne, Australia, the two-bedroom Victorian home and former shop has a white brick skin that offers a heart-gladdening exterior to the public while maintaining a perfectly discrete interior. The home is, in fact, deceptively extroverted, wearing its cordiality loud and proud, while hiding all of its secrets.
Once inside, the white brick melds with blond wood and dark metal in an open space that residents can comfortably adapt to the current season or a specific mood. As such, the interior remains the ideal haven, while still presenting an affable, neighborly face that most literally says “HELLO”!
