AWARD-WINNING INTERIOR BY DAVID KOHN ARCHITECTS
A vacation home for two brothers in the heart of Barcelona
Tucked away in Barcelona’s famous Gothic quarter is David Kohn Architects’ award-winning Carrer Avinyó. Beating out 55 other nominees, the design triumphed as World Interior of the Year 2013 at the INSIDE: World Festival of Interiors award ceremony in Singapore.
As is typical of the neighborhood, the apartment is triangular, therefore the architects removed the interior walls to create one large open plan. Bedrooms were then created inside of large pieces of furniture that look like buildings, successfully creating an interior architecture that plays with scale.
Reflecting the apartment’s shape, the patterned tiles are also triangular and begin with red on one end of the apartment and green on the other, symbolically meeting in the communal living space.
