ALL I OWN HOUSE BY PKMN ARCHITECTURES

A small house that moves and transforms throughout the day

More often than not, our house is a reflection of ourselves. So, what would the home of a forward-thinking designer resemble? PKMN Architectures gives us a pretty good idea with their recently completed All I Own House. Devised for the Spanish designer and founder of ERREPILA design studio, Yolanda R. Pila, the house is one central space that transforms throughout the day.

A small, single storey house with a huge garden, the residence previously belonged to the designer’s grandmother. The architects used a custom-made system consisting of chipboard and an industrial railing system to arrange the different rooms of the house in between three suspended, mobile containers. Just as the designer herself is never static and fixed, the house can be entirely transformed within seconds.

A major benefit to the intricate-yet-simple system is the maximization of space. The designer can both live and work in the small house without needing several separate rooms. Each of the separate containers serves a specific function: a bed/office unit, a dressing unit and a kitchen unit. The containers are bordered by the bathroom on one end and the stove and kitchen sink on the other.

The entire system hangs on the intelligent use of integrated elements. The bed folds into the wall when not in use as do the kitchen counters. Storage is integrated into every available nook and cranny. Sliding panels hide the kitchen and bathroom during professional meetings and serve as privacy panels for the bedroom at night.

The designer no longer needs to move within her house, the house moves with her. It is at once an ingenious, practical and whimsical solution that, personally, has us green with envy.
