sneak peak at foster and partners' chicago riverfront apple store

rumors of a new apple location along chicago’s riverfront have recently been confirmed according to an exclusive story published by the chicago tribune.

the city has already approved plans for foster and partners‘ designed apple store to be located on pioneer square at the north michigan avenue shopping district which will consist of a 2-story, 20,000 square-foot store complete with unbeatable views of the river.

from the street level, a slender roof-line 14′ high covers an area of 91′ x 71′ surrounded by glass walls- a subtle addition to the square not quite replicating the iconic glass cube in manhattan but still in line with the lack of visible advertisement. once inside, the store cascades down the the existing steps of the square down to the boardwalk, creating a double-height space transparent on all sides. the store is slated for construction beginning next year, more details to come upon the architects’ future release of images.
