IROJE KHM architects adds parking building to seoul's complex

korean firm IROJE KHM architects has added a car parking building to the ‘silver boat’, a building complex constructed 20 years ago.

the network of edifices is located in the center of a famous street nicknamed by students ‘street of hongik university’ in seoul due to its proximity to the educational center. because the previous construction had a boat-like shape, the architects decided to continue with this style when designing ‘white boat’.

‘white boat’ stands out on the prow like a ship-like tower, clad in painted aluminum, with polycarbonate windows that reveal the cars ascending and descending on the steel lifts. the decision to add windows to this car storage, was to give it life through light both inside and out. due to the past building’s shape, composed of three curved walls which symbolize the sailing boats on the han-river, the added construction is thought as a new boat, in white, that joins and stands in harmony with the other one.
