SOFTlab weaves undulating greenhouse lattice through innisfree shop in seoul

within the innisfree flagship store in seoul, new york based studio SOFTlab has suspended an undulating spatial installation that weaves its way through through the luminous retail space in myeongdong.

the all-natural korean cosmetics brand — with products ranging from makeup to skin care — has informed SOFTlab’s realization of a hanging garden for the site, drawing reference from greenhouse systems and styles. the installation, made of all-natural materials to highlight the use of organic ingredients in innisfree products, comprises a central structure of white oak wood veneer, configured in a lattice-like structure that allows light from the glass greenhouse roof to filter into the store. petal-like elements made of recycled paper from innisfree packaging clad the vertical surfaces, forming a floral arrangement that builds on the motifs and methodology of the brand.

additionally, SOFTlab has extended the botanical qualities of the interior installation to the store façade, populating the exterior with folded aluminum ‘petals’ that mimic those within. these three-dimensional panels are made from powder coated aluminum and dissolve towards the street in an organic pattern. a scattered selection of petals contain LED light fixtures behind them, giving the overall façade a dynamic and luminous presence at night.
