#LANDSCAPING AND URBAN PLANNING PROJECTS

the scarcity and creativity studio develops public event space in valparaiso, chile

sitio eriazo is a collective whose aim is to recover empty and abandoned urban spaces in the chilean city of valparaiso.

founded in 2012, members of the non-hierarchical group are recent graduates from theater, art and architecture schools. in 2015, sitio eriazo invited the scarcity and creativity studio — a design and build organization within the oslo school of architecture and design (AHO) — to help develop a tight urban plot of land.

before the project began, sitio eriazo cleared the site of all rubbish and built provisional closures to restrict access from the street. the brief was to design a flexible events space that could accommodate theater, circus, and music performances. in addition, the scheme — which became known as ‘the wave’ — had to include cooking facilities to both prepare and serve food during events. the finalized plan also includes space for workshops, providing room for the community to realize their personal projects. a small vegetable garden is also provided, allowing sitio eriazo to plant vegetables and herbs, which can later be used in the kitchen.
