za bor renovates setun river house in moscow with tile-clad volumes
russian practice za bor architects has unveiled plans for ‘setun river house’, a three-storey residential renovation located near moscow.
in proposing the complete overhaul, the design team added a series of volumes that result in a dwelling three times the size of the original building. a fresh material palette is employed externally, with locally sourced larch wood contrasting pale ceramic tiles.
primary living accommodation is found at ground level, with other smaller communal areas positioned throughout the home. in total, the property has 62 rooms, including a small movie theater and a pool, a salt cave, a wardrobe for winter clothes, several children’s rooms, a games room, a library, guest facilities, and a small winter garden. a soaring 16 meter-tall void penetrates all three floors, topped with a large skylight. sitting between two offices on the third floor, a glazed winter garden provides plenty of light for the home’s occupants.
