C.F. møller nestles villa R into danish forest

scandinavian practice C.F. møller architects has recently finished one of their latest residences tucked against a line of dense vegetation in aarhus, denmark.

‘villa R’ consists of only one story above grade and occupies less than 20% of the site per zoning regulations, pushed as close to a dense line of trees so as to provide a natural wall that changes with the seasons. a partial subterranean level serves as a base for a seemingly floating patinated zinc volume that opens to the front of the site on one end, and the line of trees on the other through large glass walls. the basement containing the children’s bedrooms and play room opens up onto an exterior sunken patio leading to the yard. the social spaces and master suite are housed on the top level enjoying views of the surrounding landscape. expansive terraces on the front and back encourage the tenants to interact with the exterior environment, allowing easy access to the yard while a series of wide front steps forms a space for interaction.
