marine science museum by foster + partners breaks ground in taiwan
a groundbreaking ceremony has been held in keelung for taiwan’s new national museum of marine science and technology (NMMST).
conceived by norman foster and partners, the project will be the largest aquarium in northern taiwan and has been designed to serve as a destination for visitors of all ages, attracting both tourists and the local community.
the building is oriented to face badouzi harbor, while maintaining connectivity between the waterfront and the fishing village to the east of the site. imagined as a social hub, the museum’s focal point will be a public plaza at the heart of the aquarium, while many of the facilities – such as the shop, cafe and restaurant – will remain open seven days a week. no opening date for the museum has yet been announced.
