michele de lucchi constructs concrete chapel in southern germany

designed by italian architect michele de lucchi, this small chapel dedicated to saint jakob is situated in the bavarian countryside south of munich

Located on a private property, the 15 square meter building takes up the same area as the other religious shrines to be found in the surrounding district of fischbachau.

once inside, worshipers are greeted with a staircase that leads to a single wooden bench. this area of seating is placed in front of a round window that frames a cross erected on the edge of the lawn opposite. the entire volume contains only the bench, a marble font and a wooden candle-holder shelf. while the chapel is constructed primarily from a local concrete, the roof, doors and windows are made from copper and wood.
