#LANDSCAPING AND URBAN PLANNING PROJECTS

costa lopes & landplan revitalize luanda bay waterfront in angola

costa lopes architects, in collaboration with landscaping office landplan, has completed an extensive 510,000m2 redevelopment of the ‘bay of luanda waterfront’ in angola’s capital city.

the intervention is part of a larger effort by the african nation to revitalize the city, and is seen as an important step that will figuratively ‘seep’ into adjacent public spaces throughout the entire urban area.

two green layers complete with trees, bushes, and grass act as buffers between road lanes and the development’s bike and pedestrian pathways. set along nearly 3,500 meters of frontage are places for meetings, benches to rest, areas for sports activities, and various other urban services, equipment, and furnishings. the restructuring and extension of the ‘luanda bay waterfront’ seeks to protect and legitimize the coastal capital’s rich local history and culture.

the intervention is part of an ongoing revitalization and development of the city
