Santa claus logistics center competition proposal by rastvor group
Rastvor group has imagined a circular volume for a unique competition regarding the design of the ‘santa claus logistics center’
The planned site, with a total area of 37,934 m², is located at the intersection of roads visiolinja and huhtakalliontie in a suburb of the city of oulu, finland. giving the simple shape natural properties in the form of a shell avoids a boring and attractive façade, attempting to harmoniously integrate the object into the environment.
The structure is divided into two portions: the warehouses and public spaces. the halves are separated by an internal atrium that demarcates the axis, the center off of which all the zones are oriented and along which all pedestrian traffic is organized. the main entrance into the building is located near the 215-car parking zone, while loading is carried out in clearly selected locations along the exterior. this procession achieves a theatrical effect where the change in decorations represents the merge between various functions. the restaurant hall, with the disclosure of the courtyard, creates an atmosphere for visitors similar to northern fairy tales. the office space arranges a single room with a hierarchical structure in the form of boxes, one above the other, resulting in a three-part raumplan, which is saturated with individual workstations and meeting rooms. on the second level there is room for santa’s daily activities.
