Swedish chapel transformed into an incredible cottage that’s selling for peanuts
Arlo Guthrie's old friend Alice has nothing on this adorable Swedish chapel renovation, which converted a house of worship into a charming cottage home.
After years of perfecting the transformation, the homeowners have put the property up for sale, making it a perfect time to take a virtual tour. At the time of this report, the winning bid is equivalent to just $134,000, so anyone in the market for a Swedish getaway chapel should act quickly.
The chapel is located in the scenic canal-front town of Töreboda in the southern part of Sweden. Originally built in 1966, the structure consists of just two rooms. Renovations in 2006 turned the chapel into a cozy home, with a spacious family room consuming the original worship space and sporting a 21-foot-high ceiling. Upstairs, the loft has been transformed into a bedroom. A full kitchen has also been incorporated into the first floor of the building.
It appears the chapel’s original wood flooring was retained and given a beautiful golden glow that reflects the bright white walls and ceiling. Despite having only a few windows, the space is flooded with natural light that lends to the airy feel of the open floor plan. An efficient geothermal heating system conserves energy, in conjunction with other smart technologies added over the years since the original conversion from chapel to cottage.
The 1400-square-foot home is attached to a large backyard with patios and a flowing creek that runs along the edge of the adjacent woods. Stockholm-based real estate firm Fastighetsbyrån holds the listing, where prospective buyers can see the top three bids on the property and contact the broker about throwing their hat into the ring.
