Stunning house in the trees proves that modern design can live in harmony with nature
The architects at Mexico-based Grupo Arquitectura wanted to create a space inspired by the concept of living in harmony with the natural environment, while still embracing contemporary, sustainable building techniques and materials.
La Casa en el Bosque (English translation: The house in the woods) is the result of that endeavor. The home is situated in the heart of a woodland area and emphasizes how modern glass and concrete can co-exist with - and even enhance - nature.
According to the architect, “The house is designed in two geometrical concrete structures, connected by a system of metal beams. The most remarkable feature however is the floating glass walkway.
It not only provides an easy access to and passage between the areas of the house, but also offers an exciting experience of intimately connecting with the natural surroundings.”
Despite its elegant design, La Casa en el Bosque doesn’t skimp on functionality at the expense of form. The house features three bedrooms, along with a shared living area that houses a living room and kitchen.
The glazing was all designed with solar control features to help regulate the amount of heat entering and leaving the home. During the daytime, the house is illuminated by ample daylighting. The home also has a water filtration unit to provide water waste re-use.
Outside, the home blends seamlessly with the environment, with plenty of spaces to lounge about – including a cozy hammock and plenty of deck space.
