5+ Design merges high-rise living with nature in their Krystal Laputa project

In order to foster interaction between residents and the outdoors, Hollywood-based 5+ Design created the Krystal Laputa, a series of residential high rises that merge modern living with environmental design.

The buildings, located in Chengdu, China, will be linked by a variety of elevated green spaces, including marinas, waterways and land bridges that will feature recreational spaces. Each apartment will have its own garden, which surrounds the unit.

The towers are situated on a manmade lake and a tea house on the main level of the building cantilevers out over the water. The lake itself, beyond providing a beautiful view for the residents, will act as a sanctuary for wildlife. Residents will exit the elevator to their home straight into a private garden that surrounds each unit, making nature an integral part of high-rise living.

Each unit will have a slightly different shape and position within the building. According to 5+ Design, “Undulating shapes play with the look and feel of form and space as balconies and rooms protrude outward, creating an overall geometric aesthetic.”

Every unit has a 270 degree view, while the penthouses on top have a 360 degree view of the area, allowing residents to enjoy their surroundings, even while they are indoors.
