Viereck Architekten's green-roofed mountain chalets offer 360-degree views of the Alps

Austrian architecture firm Viereck Architekten designed a series of wooden mountain chalets that offer spectacular 360-degree views of the Alps.

The buildings feature locally-sourced larch wood and recycled timber from parlors and old farmhouses. Altogether, the group of chalets look like they're floating above a mountain crest.

The architects designed the chalets as an extension of the prestigious “WirtshausSteirereck” restaurant. Each of the chalets has underground parking lots built underneath the existing landscape and a main supporting structure whose design is based on sustainable principles. The structure is made from local timber and features various natural materials, along with a green roof.

The main living room is dominated by a large fireplace and is accessed via a foyer. Next to it are the kitchen and dining areas. The entire space is bathed in natural light that penetrates the interior through large windows. Acting as an extension of the living room, the windows frame views of the surrounding landscape and provide access to the terrace. Each of the chalets use geothermal energy and feature green roofs.
