The Vipp Shelter is a plug-and-play prefab home that can be placed just about anywhere

Company Vipp developed chic prefab that showcases their competitive design in the market.

Danish company Vipp has created the Vipp Shelter, a modern prefab escape that can pop up just about anywhere. Made from galvanized-steel-and-glass, this 600-square-foot minimalist house comes fully furnished and only takes three to five days to assemble on site. The compact two-story abode can accommodate four people and its minimalist design helps the structure blend seamlessly into the landscape.

Although Vipp is best known for its designer garbage cans, the company developed the Vipp Shelter to show off their design prowess in the prefab market. The modular nature retreat is completely furnished with many of Vipp’s own products and accessories. Built with a simple steel grid, the Vipp Shelter consists of a day bed, bathroom, open-plan living and kitchen areas on the lower level, while the main bed is located on the lofted upper story. Large floor-to-glass windows and skylights frame the landscape, making it an important part of the Vipp Shelter identity and interior space.

“The objective was not to make a house or a mobile home,” said Morten Bo Jensen, chief designer in Vipp. “Vipp is rooted in the manufacture of industrial objects, so the term shelter is a typology that allows us to define this hybrid as a spacious, functionally generic, livable object.” The self-contained industrial chic Vipp Shelter costs $580,000—excluding freight and installation—and is delivered in two containers; the prefab abode does not offer customization.
