Glamping on the Rock
Introduced over ten years ago in Korea, the “glamping” concept fuses nature, ecological values, comfort and glamourous design. ArchiWorkshop reinterprets the formula in the pinewoods near Seoul.
Korean studio ArchiWorkshop designed a “glamping” – a glamourous camping site – in the Arboretum of the Ga-Pyeong region, outskirts of Seoul. The project embraces the characters of the region with its pine forests and large rocks, expressing the atmosphere of the site with a master plan that doesn’t disturb nature.
The site is located on the edge of pine forest, with a slope height difference of 25 meters from south to north end. The area for glamping is positioned on the road side, and the buildings are divided into three volumes along a slope.
The facade of the buildings is a combination of mirror and black cedar wood panels that embrace the surrounding nature. ArchiWorkshop introduced two glamping designs: a “rock flower” and “dynamic triangle”, inspired by the surroundings. The glamping units are juxtaposed and their shape and position were carefully considered to give aesthetic emergence both during the day and the night time. Thanks to a white membrane, the two units work as a lantern by night.
