arrhov frick's six walls house serves as a swedish country retreat

Providing respite from the city, the ‘six walls house’ is located in a dense forest area outside of stockholm, taking its place among the nature of pine trees, water and rocks.

Designed by arrhov frick akitektkontor the long and narrow plot extends between the road and water where in contrast to its context, the form of the building is robust and refined. composed mainly of concrete and cement plaster, the residence is situated close to the water and raised on the hill, the walls are 5.4 meters high and angled towards the waterfront facing north. as the name states, there are only six walls that make up the external structure and in between, casted slabs are used to divide the internal rooms horizontally.

Inside, the double height living room is illuminated by floor-to-ceiling windows and simultaneously the space is decorated with polished and raw furnishings. a white, twisting staircase leads up to the private quarters where all rooms have an immediate access to their own balcony all of which look out to the landscape and offering strong connections to the outdoors, enhancing an amicable sense of isolation.
