this dwelling designed by catalan firm PMMT arquitectura is clad with a green ceramic skin that camouflages the building with its verdant surroundings. located in barcelona, ‘TR house’ is a private three-storey property that mediates a complex topography and setting. ‘we had to solve an accentuated slope between the main entrance and the access to the house,’ explain the architects. slopes and ramps establish different relationships between the landscape, the house, and its interiors.

PMMT’s design is placed below street level in order to integrate fully with both the landscape and the taller neighboring buildings. internally, a primary axis allows residents to easily access each room, while simultaneously ensuring a visual relationship with the natural environment. a central patio permits daylight to enter and creates a variety of visual perspectives. the lower level contains the ‘day areas’, such as the living and dining room, with bedrooms and corresponding bathrooms, found above. the uppermost storey houses an office, a guest room, and an large pergola-covered terrace.

assembled on a stainless steel frame, four different tones of ceramic tiles have been used to mimic the same shades as the surrounding landscape during each season. the system ensures privacy, while guaranteeing natural daylight and ventilation throughout the year. open to the landscape, a large wooden platform allows the living and dining area to be extended externally, under the shade of the trees. the terrace also provides access to the rear of the property.
