The Ladder House

What kind of experience can we perceive in a hostel, costing only 50,000 RMB, remoulded from an old warehouse?

The 'Layer Hostel' was built under this circumstance. This two-bay house occupies a warehouse along the river in Luxu,a small town in Southern China. After the renovation, the room near the river was changed into a residential house and the other into an inner courtyard. The floor height of this three-story living house was compressed to 2.4 meters to avoid the truss. Newly-built walls and old warehouse pediments embrace this house with two voids across the courtyard and the riverfront platform, one as the entrance and the other as the balcony. The hearth near the entrance was remained and the door sheets on both sides of the balcony can be all removed to get through. When the sun goes down, the river reflects the sunset light and gently spreads it to every corner of the house.
