The Italian Job

The brief was simple: design a contemporary Italian pub

The studio drew inspiration from copper as a material, reflecting the process of producing beer, leaving an unexpected and classic Italian charm.

The pub was completely refurbished, creating an area for a professional kitchen whilst utilising as much space as possible for the actual pub area. The interiors combine elegant, sophisticated and simple lines with an influence from Italian art, creating a strong symmetric visual effect from the street capturing the attention of the public.

A strict, monochromatic colour palette has been used throughout which compliments the rawness of the pubs primary surfaces. Checkerboard concrete tiles, a reclaimed pine floor (salvaged from a train carriage), the copper top of the counter and exposed brick walls create a relaxed pub style environment – in keeping with the food offering.

Great consideration for the choice of lighting led to proposing the use of copper once more, with exposed conduits and aged copper shades helping to create an industrial look and feel.

The facade has been painted over copper leaf, again echoing the palette used throughout the establishment.

Classically urban, The Italian job is an all-day pub, avoiding all expected clichés that come hand in hand with the territory – yet respecting the overlooked beauty of everyday Italy.

Located in Devonshire Road, Chiswick, The Italian Job is the first Italian craft beer pub in London.
