JACK NICKLAUS GOLF COURSE

Developed on reclaimed marine soil with extensive water features, the Jack Nicklaus 18-hole golf course is the first of its kind in Korea.

Built as the focal point of Songdo International Business District’s (SIBD) environmentally focused green space program. The resort is an oasis of tranquility bordered by the breathtaking beauty of the nature preserve and the sea. Living here offers the best of both worlds - city elegance and convenience combined with natural tranquility and peaceful vistas. The serene ambiance creates an inviting environment for multiple events and functions, such as the upcoming 2015 Presidents Cup – the first event of this type in Asia.

With set standard of excellence for private golf clubs and lifestyle communities in Asia, the centerpiece of the complex is a 62,500 sf clubhouse designed to reveal itself gradually over time. As sunlight passes through certain openings at different times of day, community members are greeted by freshly revealed details and vistas. Taking cues from Asian architecture and feng shui, the clubhouse entices visitors with distinctive and often surprising visual connections to the golf course that shift as they move through the space. Articulation, massing, and roof abstractly recall gold course elements, with the foreground and approach to the clubhouse resembling a fairway and roof contours that echo the rolling greens. An elegant, restful atmosphere, evoked by a rich material palette, balances the stimulating visual connections to the landscape.

The articulation massing and roof take their cues from an abstraction of the elements which comprise a golf course. Looking down the fairway, on a typical course you see the contours of the greens, which is mirrored in the roof. The selection of rich materials evokes the nostalgia of clubs, but the vistas which connect to the landscape provide a new and inviting feeling. Songdo district is the largest private real estate development is history. Build from scratch on 1,500 acres, the 10-year development of this new community will feature the Northeast Asia Trade Tower and Incheon Tower in addition to schools, hospitals, apartments, office buildings and cultural amenities. Jack Nicklaus Golf Course’s pleasant location is amongst planned replicas of architectural hallmarks; New York City’s Central Park and Venice’s waterways. A generous $40 billion budget allows for luxurious villas. The villas, likewise, take the idea of connection to landscape and use it as a fundamental tool for their development. Composed of large expanses of glass balconies and vistas through the house, these attributes elevate the sense of commune with nature – complementing the vision and intention of the Jack Nicklaus’s design.
